For musicians who are dealing with, or wish to avoid issues like:

  • RSI, carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, tendonitis

  • back pain, neck pain, wrist pain

  • headache, migraine

  • excess tension

  • focal dystonia

5 x 90 minute sessions, Wednesdays at 7:45pm
1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th May 2019

Full course fees:

$220 if paid by 1st March,
$250 if paid by 1st April, otherwise $280

This course is run to assist musicians struggling with injury or pain when practicing or performing. Also for those who wish to cultivate positive practices for injury prevention and comfort in playing.

It is open to musicians of any instrument, age, background or level of experience.

The content will mostly be drawn from principles of Alexander Technique and look at how they are relevant to a musician’s practice.

Throughout the course, musicians will:

  • Deepen understanding of how to meet the demands of performance

  • Improve on body mapping

  • Learn to modify patterns of posture and movement which may be non-productive

  • Apply a practical framework for promoting healthy coordination

  • Develop skills to independently apply what they have learnt in the sessions

The course will be customised to suit the needs of the individuals who attend.

There is a piano in the studio, other instrumentalists are asked to bring their instruments.

About the presenter

Jeremy Woolhouse is a qualified Alexander Technique Teacher and music graduate of the VCA. As a student and professional performer, he has used Alexander Technique to overcome RSI in wrists and shoulder, back pain and hypertension. Jeremy also draws on decades of piano teaching and Alexander Technique teaching experience to present a method for coordinating the whole performer and performance.
