Alexander Technique and other healthcare professionals

Jeremy Woolhouse

The skills you learn in Alexander study add an invaluable adjunct to any current treatment.  Alexander Technique is often used as a complimentary modality to other health care practices.  Additionally, Alexander Technique offers an approach with merits of it’s own.

Alexander Technique has endorsements of many prominent medical professionals.  It has a history of clients being referred from general practitioners, chiropractors, osteopaths, surgeons, physiotherapists, yoga instructors, sports and fitness coaches and others.  It has often been the only success story in cases where countless other modalities have failed to make significant improvements.

The Alexander Technique gives the student something positive to do, on their own, for their continued well-being.  The technique teaches an awareness of self on a more profoundly subtle and practical level than other modalities.  Because of the active involvement of the pupil in the process, the changes are sustained, have greater longevity and require less intervention.

Alexander Technique is also one of the rare heath care situation where you have regular quality contact with the professional.  The lessons are, by necessity, interactive and you can be assured that the teacher will listen to your subjective experiences and discuss the process with you.  Lessons are more of a guided exploration than a prescribed set of procedures and are very individual.

The principles of Alexander technique are unique.  Whilst some principles are upheld by other modalities, the principles have most profound influence when practiced complete.  This unity is something which distinguishes Alexander Technique from other practices.
